Sept 9, 2017 marked the 2nd annual event for “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” in Stillwater, MN. This event was emotionally affecting to many families whose lives have been touched by the loss of an infant. The purpose of this program provides a chance to remember a precious baby who has died due to miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, neonatal or any type of pregnancy or infant loss.
The “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” (NILMDTS) organization provides remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby by providing beautiful heirloom portraits to families facing the untimely death of an infant. During the event, each baby is honored by having his or her name read aloud with the optional release of a balloon or butterfly in memory of the child lost. This is followed by an optional one-mile walk to reflect on the loss.
RRT members had the privilege of supporting the participants by helping set up displays and registering for the event. RRT arrived at the site at 6:00 am and assisted till noon, handing out water bottles, guiding the “walkers” along the route, and last but definitely not least, guarding hundreds of boxed butterflies prior to distribution and release.
The foundation helps 3,500 families worldwide each year. Donors can submit a name of a baby they wish to honor which will be included in the monthly newsletter on the month the donation is received.
The beautiful weather contributed to the success of this event. The clear skies and warm temperatures were perfect for the butterfly release that makes this event so memorable. Every volunteer on the team went home knowing they had supported a good cause and their work was very much appreciated.
